To honor Latinx Heritage Month, our In Focus gallery presents a selection of contemporary artworks that reflect the struggles and triumphs of the Chicanx community, especially its farm workers. Through works by leading Chicanx artists, the presentation explores the impact of the United Farm Workers Movement, a labor union co-founded in 1962 by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. Featured artists include Carlos Almaraz, Ester Hernández, Judithe Hernández, and Frank Romero. By fusing European artistic techniques with Indigenous symbolism, these artists produced political artwork in support of California’s Chicanx community.
