Executive Director of Development

Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Development (EDOD) for UCI Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA) is a senior professional who will work collaboratively with the Museum Director, the Deputy Director, and University Advancement (UA) to lead the development program of Langson IMCA and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. Will maintain a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest rated donors. The primary activity of the EDOD is externally focused to cultivate and secure private philanthropic support; the EDOD’s effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The EDOD reports directly to the Deputy Director, with a dotted line to University Advancement. The EDOD will serve as a member of the Langson IMCA’s leadership team and also be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the campus.

Department: Visitor Experience
Classification: Part-time / Hourly
Position Summary:
Gallery Guides report to the Visitor Experience Manager with oversight from the Community Engagement Assistant. The Gallery Guide position combines the responsibilities of art protection with museum information and art appreciation.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to,
- Greeting visitors as they enter the interim museum
- Ensuring that all visitors have proper access
- Protecting the artwork on view
- Enforcing museum visitor policies during public hours
- Recording attendance
- Responding to questions about the art, artists, and exhibitions on view; parking; hours' upcoming exhibitions and public programs; school visits; group visits and the new museum project
- Participate in paid training for each exhibition
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a public-facing position, enjoys engaging with diverse publics, is willing to assert themselves when needed in order to enforce policies and protect artwork, and demonstrates independent judgment, discretion, and initiative.
Required
Registered UCI undergraduate or graduate student
Punctuality and attendance
Must be able to commit to at least one shift per week (Tuesday through Saturday: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm, 12:30 – 4:30 pm, or 9:30 am – 4:30 pm)
Preferred experience
Previous experience in retail, hospitality, or customer service
Experience/interest in working in a dynamic environment with periods of work that are busy and slow
Experience with, knowledge of, appreciation for, or interest in visual art
Familiarity with museum education, museum studies, and/or object-centered learning
Fluency in a second language (supports Langson IMCA’s mission to be welcoming and engaging with all visitors, including those who do not speak English or have limited English proficiency)
Other or Working Conditions
Langson IMCA's interim museum is located 2 miles from campus and accessible by car, OCTA bus, or bike.
Compensation
Academic Year: $15.50 per hour; up to 19.5 hours per week during the academic year
Summer: $15.50 per hour, up to 30 hours per week

Museum Educator

Position Summary:
As a member of the Education and Community Engagement Department, museum educators report to the associate director of education and community engagement. Museum educators help build relationships with community partners, K-12 schools, and the University. Museum educator assist in the development and implementation of discussion-based gallery experiences and interactive gallery lesson plans for K-12 grade students and scripts for adult guided lessons. Museum educators help Langson IMCA build knowledge on California art, art education, STEAM, 21st century learning and pedagogy, through collaboration and programs.

Teaching Artist

Position Summary:
Teaching artists report to the associate director of education and community engagement. Teaching Artists work together as a cohort to build relationships with community partners, K-12 schools, and the University. They assist in the development and implementation of discussion-based art and art-making experiences. Teaching artists assist in the development of interactive object-based lessons for K-12 students and adult programs. Teaching artists teach in the gallery and lead art workshops during school visits. They help Langson IMCA build knowledge and new scholarship on California Art, art education, STEAM, 21st century learning and pedagogy, through collaboration and programs.
