Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion

Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion (DEAI) are core values of both the University of California, Irvine and UCI Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA). The museum and institute is committed to building and sustaining an inclusive, equitable, and just culture that is welcoming to all. Langson IMCA strives to foster empathy, engender understanding, create knowledge, and advance equity through the lens of California Art and artists.

In fulfilling the goals of all its endeavors, Langson IMCA is committed to the following:

  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience for museum visitors, in-person and online, ensuring that Langson IMCA collections, exhibitions, programs, and facilities are accessible to all
  • Reflecting under-represented voices and perspectives, as well as accurate historical narratives, in the museum’s collections, exhibitions, programs, interpretive materials, publications, and communications
  • Providing a forum for open dialogue and exchange on issues of community importance and relevance while promoting cultural respect and understanding
  • Establishing meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and other diverse individuals and organizations to connect, listen, embrace, and involve
  • Engaging diverse staff, volunteers, and council members through equitable and transparent recruitment, hiring, and retention practices
  • Adopting community-centric fundraising practices grounded in racial equity and social justice
  • Utilizing university and other resources to continually advance DEAI professional development and create cultural competency among all who represent the museum and institute—staff, volunteers, council members, and others
