First Glimpse: Introducing The Buck Collection

Join UCI IMCA for the final day of the First Glimpse: Introducing The Buck Collection exhibition. In addition to our regularly scheduled docent tour, UCI IMCA will host a panel discussion with two artists and a book launch event for the accompanying catalogue. The full schedule is below.

Laddie John Dill

Laddie John Dill, a Los Angeles artist, had his first solo exhibition in New York City with Illeanna Sonnabend Gallery in 1971. He was one of the first Los Angeles artists to exhibit “light and space” work in New York. He exhibited the “Light Sentences” and “Light Plains” in institutions across the United States and globally.

Tony DeLap

Tony DeLap was born in Oakland, CA in 1927. He lives and works in Orange County, CA. DeLap was a founding faculty member in the 1965 opening of the University of California at Irvine, where he taught in the Art Department until 1991. He is considered a pioneer artist of Abstractionism, Minimalism and Op Art on the West Coast.

Moderator: Gisela Colon

Gisela Colon is an American contemporary artist who has developed a unique vocabulary of “organic minimalism,” breathing life-like qualities into reductive forms. Colon’s oeuvre encompasses several distinct sculptural forms: Pods, Slabs, Monoliths, and Portals.

Book Launch

A limited number of hardcover books that explore even more of The Buck Collection will be available for purchase at the event. The book will feature essays by the exhibition curators and will be fully illustrated with the 50 works in the exhibition as well as 100 additional artworks, comprising an expanded first glimpse of The Buck Collection.
